Summer Camp Director Position
ArtVenture is looking to hire a post-secondary student OR a recently graduated professional within the fields of Visual Arts, Fine Arts and/or Education - whose career path and life passions will provide parents and campers with a high quality program. 

We are looking for Art Instructors who are energetic, passionate, and able to communicate lesson plans and lesson objectives clearly. 
Problem solving and time management skills along with leadership qualities are a great asset within ArtVenture’s classrooms. 

As the Camp Director you will play a vital role in the artistic growth of our campers. Summer camps are divided into four different programs to include General Visual Arts, 3D Sculpting, 2D Animation, and Creative Writing. While the planning of the program is the responsibility of ArtVenture, the Camp Director will oversee the successful teaching of each project within these programs.

EDUCATION 
  • Adhering with Canada Summer Jobs Grant, applicants must be under 30 years of age 
  • Graduated or currently enrolled within the field of Education and/or Visual Arts 
JOB DESCRIPTION 
The Camp Director is responsible for: 
  • Overseeing the smooth running of the camps throughout the summer.
  • Conducting the opening and closing circle of each camp in order to further enhance campers’ artistic learning. Opening circles will introduce young artists to art history, colour theory, and a variety art critique techniques, while closing circles end each day with thought provoking comments and analysis of personal progress.
  • Managing large and small groups of campers as they create different art projects and ensuring they have a positive and safe art experience throughout their time at ArtVenture. 
  • Teaching and guiding our Intermediate (Gr.6-8) and Senior (Gr.9-10) campers. Attending to the progress of projects at varying age levels.
  • Ensuring sufficient materials are available for Art Instructors. 
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 
  • Previous experience as a teacher / instructor / facilitator
  • Extensive knowledge of Art History and Colour Theory
  • Ability to guide and instruct in order to help students of all ages find their own artistic voice 
  • Ability to guide and instruct students through various art projects using a variety of media 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Well-organized and committed 
  • Creative and energetic
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire 
  • Current CPR and First Aid training is mandatory 
  • Provide instruction to students by promoting interactive learning 
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school management 
  • Practice time management skills along with classroom management, to ensure that active learning occurs 
  • Aiding in quick clean-up and set-up for our primary (SK-Gr.2) and junior (Gr.3-5) campers.
  • Providing any extra help when hands-on help is needed
  • Aiding instructors with classroom management.
  • Ensuring that snacks are available on time 
  • Working on Adobe Photoshop throughout our Storyboarding (2D Animation) workshop
  • Engaging campers in positive and animated conversation and group critique every Friday as we wrap up our Visual Arts, Sculpting, Animation, and Creative Writing camps.
APPLICATION PROCESS
 
Interested applicants are asked to submit a resume and cover letter along with a portfolio of recent work (this can be your own artwork or art created by your students under your guidance) to info@artventure.ca
Successful applicants will be invited for an interview. 
Applicants who are then selected to move onto the second part of the interview will be invited to participate in one or two of our regular weekly classes and/or our March Break Art Camp. This is a hands-on portion of the interview as it provides the interviewer with the chance to observe applicants’ interaction with children and their approach to art education. 

PLEASE NOTE
  • This is a full time position (30hrs/week) for a duration of six to seven weeks throughout the summer. 
  • Camps will commence on Monday, July 6th and will end on Friday, August 28th, 2020 
  • We will not be offering camps during the Civic Holiday short week of August 3-7 
  • For this position, candidates must be available for the entire duration of the summer 
  • There will be three paid mandatory staff meetings prior to July 6th.
